Stoney Creek


Stoney Creek is a historic and rapidly growing community located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Formerly an independent city, it was amalgamated into the City of Hamilton in 2001. It is best known for its role in the War of 1812 and its proximity to the scenic Niagara Escarpment. 

Key Attractions
Battlefield House Museum & Park: A National Historic Site commemorating the 1813 Battle of Stoney Creek. It features the landmark 100-foot-tall monument and the historic Gage House.

Devil’s Punchbowl Conservation Area: Offers spectacular views from the Niagara Escarpment and features a stunning waterfall and a large illuminated cross visible from the city.

Confederation Beach Park: A major lakefront destination that includes the Wild Waterworks water park, go-karts, mini-golf, and scenic waterfront trails.

Fifty Point Conservation Area: A 112-hectare park with a marina, camping facilities, and some of the warmest swimming waters on western Lake Ontario. 

Community & Lifestyle
Wineries & Agriculture: While suburban growth has increased, the area remains famous for its fruit-growing heritage, particularly the Winona Peach Festival held every summer. It also serves as the gateway to the Niagara wine region.

Real Estate: The community is divided between the "lower" city (Old Town) and "Upper Stoney Creek" on the mountain. As of early 2026, the average home price is approximately $782,352.

Safety & Schools:
Stoney Creek is often cited for having significantly lower crime rates than the national average. It is served by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and several Catholic institutions.
